About

I live in London. G.H. Bone is a pseudonym.

This blog was originally entitled “Why you should listen to…” because it was conceived as a series of short essays about music, each of which would explain to the listener why he or she should listen to a particular piece of music, or the output of a particular composer or performer, or a genre of music or … well just about anything really.

I chose this approach to ensure that the blog was a positive, celebratory sort of place, where sniping would be avoided.

If you enjoy sniping (well, don’t we all?) I suggest buying a copy of the Lexicon of Musical Invective by Nicolas Slonimsky.

This blog will be a place for musical enthusiasts, temporarily putting aside their prejudices and pet hates. I intend to cover a wide range of music, which will be selected using entirely whimsical criteria. The content of the posts is, however, intended to well-informed and intellectually sound.

For that reason, I would be grateful to receive corrections or suggestions to improve any of the material that appears here.
